The biggest palace of Warmia and Mazury was built in the years 1710-1716 by Bogusław F. Dönhoff. It became the main residence of the family. It had a theatre, chapel and orangery and was surrounded by an extensive park with a lot of statues, pavilions and ponds. Nearby there was a modern grange – you can still see a preserved neo-Gothic brick barn. In 1816 Stanisław O. Dönhoff, the last male descendant of the house, was killed in a duel. From the mid-19th century the palace belonged to the Stolberg-Wernigerode family. After World War II it housed a farming school. At present the palace is in private hands. In the village you can visit the 14th century church (rebuilt in the 16th c.) with the Dönhoffs tomb chapel of 1742. |
